About Me

Hello & Welcome! My name is Kiersten, and I am a LMFT associate and ADHD coach.

I work with teens, individuals, & relationships. As a counselor I want to provide an accepting and nonjudgmental space for all my clients.  I hope to help them build insight and awareness into themselves and identify places in their life they want to implement action and change. I always have a goal of being a strong support for all my clients and help facilitate them in their growth of achieving their goals at their own pace.

I work with teenagers outside of the therapy room as well. I work with teens who have ADHD/ADD and need supports with skill building around executive functioning. I work with Joellyn Johnson at Portland ADHD coach. Feel free to visit portlandadhdcoach.com to reach out for scheduling if ADHD coaching is of interest, rather than mental health therapy!

I am currently a licensed marriage and family therapist associate, and I am supervised by Patrick Johnson, PhD.

Counseling Philosophy & Approach

"Relationships will create re-enactments for you. Those re-enactments create your opportunities for healing."

Vienna Pharaon

I believe that people are relational beings that innately crave connection with others and reach for it in the best way they know how. When there is a feeling of disconnect between yourself and the world or with those in your life, it can be lonely, saddening and confusing. I aim to help my clients explore what is causing them distress whether individually or relationally. My work is approached from a collaborative blend of different theories including Attachment, Family Systems, Emotion-Focused, and Internal Family Systems. Some of my goals with using these theories are to increase awareness and insight around your patterns in relationships and where you are getting stuck. We may do this by using your emotions in times of distress as information rather as something to avoid or be afraid of. We may look at some parts of us that are confusing and frustrating and try to approach them with curiosity as opposed to criticism or judgement.

Through our exploration I hope to help both relationships and individuals better understand themselves and their relationships with those around them. It takes consistent, repetitive practice to learn new patterns and implement change. I am here to be alongside you as a core support through this journey you are starting on to better understand yourself and your life.

I approach each client with the understanding that their story and experience is unique to them. I seek to join with clients in a respectful way that acknowledges their own wisdom through practical, supportive, and empathetic connection. I recognize the array of challenges a person will come into my office facing and I seek to integrate emotions, thoughts, experiences and actions to hopefully move towards a happier more fulfilled life.
